Hello, I`m Chato, a male blue-fronted amazon parrot. I`ve lived in my most recent home for the past 15 years and arrived at my foster home in October 2024. My exact age is unknown, by the vet at Medical Center for Birds thinks 30`s - 40`s. It`s unknown if I`ve ever lived with other birds, but I seem to feel a bit aggressive when I see other parrots near my territory. Sadly, I had a broken wing in the past that was never treated and now cannot be fixed. Because I cannot fly, I get to go outside on the patio, under watchful human eye, for some natural light! It is also known that I was fed an unhealthy diet of people food that included things like meats, and butter on my veggies, and toast. For this reason, I am also taking two medications twice a day that are good for my heart and circulation.

I am quite a sweet and cheerful bird who seems to currently prefer human females, but I did have a strong bond with a male in my past two homes - in each case the man I was bonded to passed away. After my last male caretaker died, I bonded with his wife. I get pretty darn excited when meeting anyone who comes into the house. I step-up nicely once I get to know you, I`m also good at stepping up on a hand-held perch in the meantime. I do like head scritches and will let you know. I love to nap while perched on my human`s leg. To be honest, napping is my favorite thing, other than eating. I am not allowed on the shoulder due to my size and large beak! I know a few human words and say Good, Hi, and Hello. I can also be quite operatic when I get excited, like when my person comes home, I say: "Hello! La la! la la laaaaa!" Then I ring like a phone! I don`t play with toys much, but I`m learning foraging using my favorite treats: popcorn or multi-grain Cheerios! As for my diet, I am not on board with eating bird pellets, but I love to eat healthy cooked foods with my person at the dinner table, and I am also eating a product called Bird Street Bistro that my human cooks for me. I really want to be part of a family.
