Update 12/18/2010: Harley & Davidson are such good friends! if one or the other is taken out of the cage or out of the room, the other throws a fit at the notion of separation. Yet, together, like a little married couple, they bicker sometimes over a perch or this or that. It's quite sweet how much they enjoy each other's company.

They love to climb out of their cage & hang out on whichever play station is near. Occasionally, if the play station is a pinch too close to an appetizing plant, they try it out-- so be careful about what plants are near them!

In the morning, one or the other frequently sings an odd but very endearing song or two. I try to whistle it back, to encourage them-- their songs are not easy to imitate! - Harley does the wolf whistle, too, but not too often.

Harley likes to show aggressiveness toward anyone opening the cage door-- even for food. He looks threatening, but it's all show. I think that, with some tender loving training, he could be hand friendly-- but until then, he probably isn't good for young kids-- maybe ever. He may misinterpret their desire to be pals.

As a way to defray any aggressiveness, I whistle the same tune every time I'm working on the cage-- giving or taking bowls, or cleaning-- Zippity Doo Dah. He calms down because of that! - maybe it's a signal to him that I'm the same person from yesterday, or something. I recommend it for anyone who might be called to care for these guys.

Davidson is much less aggressive but not more hand friendly. Again, if I would spend more time training, I think Davidson could be friendly.

Both are stick-trained, though occasionally they need coaxing (they're WILD about millet, but pine nuts work wonders, too!).

I call them my little hooligans-- and I mean that in a nice way. If you aren't looking for birds that are cuddly, and you enjoy characters on their own terms, for their eccentricity, these are the boys for you! Check out a video of Taffy singing.
