11/8/10 UPDATE: Ariel is all grown up and has matured into a lovely king pigeon hen. She is bonded to another king- Saffron- and they are available for adoption as a couple. You can read more about pigeons as pets at www.RescueReport.org ****** Hello- my name is Ariel and I'm a baby king pigeon. I was found wandering around lost, scared and starving in Dolores Park on 2/24 when I was only 4 weeks old! Luckily, someone recognized I was a domestic bird in big trouble out in the wild and brought me into SFACC. Then, I got lucky again because a MickaCoo volunteer was there that day and saw how skinny and weak I was and knew that I needed special care to recover. I'm one of the lucky few because I was taken into foster care (they're FULL and I almost didn't get in!) along with two other under-the-weather baby king pigeons. I got care and hand-feeding and built up my strength and now I'm doing very well. I love my friends (Butters and Soho) and hope that my next lucky break will be getting adopted into a safe, caring, forever home! You can read more about king pigeons as pets at www.RescueReport.org. P.S. Eating squab (what I was raised for) is like eating a puppy! They butcher us at just 4 weeks of age. Please don't buy squab so that babies like me aren't bred just to be killed for a morsel of meat. Thank you!
