I've been happily adopted, but check below for a list of other sweet birds who need a home!

Austin here. I'm named after Steve Austin, the astronaut from a 1970s TV show who was fitted with bionic limbs after his spaceship crashed. Unlike the TV character, I'm 100% grey cockatiel with no artificial parts. However, I did suffer a similar fall from the sky after being carried off by a hawk! I could have been a goner that afternoon but, like a TV action hero I kept my cool. My veterinarian thinks that I probably bit the hawk's toe so hard that the hawk dropped me. (I'm "just" a cockatiel but I know how to look after myself!) The vet also says that I probably suffered more from the fall than from the actual attack. So, the way I see it, the score is Austin: 1, Hawk: 0.

I spent a few days in the hospital recovering from abrasions and internal injuries and a few days after that taking antibiotics and pain killers. As of now I have a clean bill of health and my prognosis for a normal, happy life is good. And think of the stories I'll be able to share with the rest of my flock!

So far in foster care I am alert, attentive and eating like crazy. My foster dad is trying to buddy up to me which I guess is OK, but I'm still pretty suspicious of him. In the past few days I've begun singing and exploring more, though, so I am getting comfortable here.

Now that my big adventure is over, I'm available for adoption! I'm still learning to deal with people but I like other birds. I will do well with a human who will give me time to get used to them in a home with other cockatiels to be my friends.
