Grover here. I'm a Senegal parrot, probably female (that's what they say, but so far only I know for sure). I came to Mickaboo when my previous human owner came upon some hard times and couldn't keep me. It's just as well for me, though. I wasn't having a great time there anyway.

As you can see, I look a bit bedraggled. I have been plucking my feathers for a few months now and have done a pretty good job of tearing many of them out. Nobody knows exactly why I am doing this but my foster dad has been trying all kinds of things to make me stop. Instead of giving me food in a dish, he hides it all around my cage so I have to forage for it. He gives me mist baths with aloe-vera water every day and has been training me to step up nicely without biting or being too scared. I'm doing better day by day and some of my orange vest feathers are growing back in, but I'm still a very shy girl and still scared of most people. If you let me I would stay in back of my cage all day, but instead my foster dad is taking me out every evening for a few hours of playtime.

Mickaboo would like to take me back to the doctor for one more test to see if my plucking may be caused or exacerbated by a medical condition. After those results are back I'll be ready for adoption!

I really am a sweet young lady even though I sometimes seem gruff. I may never be a cuddler but I do like being around people. Even though I will probably always need my own cage for security, I like being close to other birds my size at playtime -- with my foster dad watching us, of course. I am a happy bird at heart who just needs the right human companion with the love and patience to bring that happiness out.
