Greetings! My name is Picabo and I'm a male lutino cockatiel, about 8 years old. My name is pronounced "Peek-a-boo", like the children's game, and it means "shining waters" in the language of the Native American Sho Ban tribe.

I have had an interesting life for the last couple of years and am ready to settle down again. I lost part of a wing due to an abcess, but it could have turned out much worse than that -- my original human family wanted to have me euthanized! Lucky for me, Mickaboo was there to take me in and give me the veterinary and supportive care that I needed. Besides missing a wing tip and being unable to fly, I am a healthy bird. I do need the right cage and a little special handling to keep me from falling but Mickaboo's cockatiel coordinator and my foster dad can explain that to you.

After my wing had healed and I was feeling better, Mickaboo found an ideal adopter for me -- a quiet home, no other birds, and a human companion who was practically always home with me. Unfortunately my adopter was unable to keep me because of a change in her life. We miss each other but both of us know that Mickaboo will find me the right home.

I am a shy bird and somewhat set in my ways, so it took me a few days to get settled into foster care again. I like being near people all the time, though it takes me some time to trust them enough that I will let them pick me up. I like to climb all around my cage and I have a special shelf and a ladder to help compensate for my inability to fly. I like playing with hanging toys with my beak, and once I get them swinging back and forth I will dance along with them by bobbing my head. At first i was unsure about the other cockatiels here but I have grown to appreciate their company, even though I don't interact with them much. I'm on a great diet and when I'm in the mood I can whistle with the best of them.

Like I said, my previous adopter had just about the perfect home for me so I would like to find a similar home -- quiet, plenty of human companionship, a little patience while I get settled in, and, of course, a window to look out of. I would like to stay in the same cage I am in now because I am familiar with it and feel safe there. I am used to being the only bird in a household but if you have one or a few other similar birds (budgies or cockatiels) that's fine too, as long as I keep my own cage.
