Penelope came into the shelter as a stray. Mickaboo received a message to please help if we could. A volunteer went right down to the shelter and picked her up. The volunteer knew that something just wasn't right with Penelope. Upon a close examination, the volunteer found an open wound on the top of her head underneath her feathers. Penelope was taken directly to an avian vet where it was determined that her head wound was so deep that she could see Penelope's skull! Poor little girl...who knows what attacked her and how long she had been suffering. She sure is a tough little cockatiel. She spent weeks at the vet where her head wound was cleaned and stitched up. Penelope was on meds to prevent infection and was eventually released. She is now in a wonderful foster home where she is getting back to being a cockatiel. Please check back frequently for updates on Penelope as she settles in her new home. She is also one of our featured birds available to sponsor to help defray the cost of her medical treatment. Please email Penelope's coordinator if you are interested in adopting or sponsoring her!
