Update 5/9/2008: They both step up PERFECTLY both in and out of their cage. Monty has mastered the wolf whistle so that's our 'diversion' when they do their am and pm calls. I swear he's also said "pretty, pretty bird" and "gorgeous". Sonoma is a little clumsy. I think that will always be her "disability". She is able to climb and loves to hang like a bat from the top of their cages. She just has some trouble hanging on when I have her on my hand and am walking around. She flaps and tries to get her balance. She is a very speedy runner though, can outrun Monty any day. They both love to go out in the yard for a tanning session and bath. The weather has been really warm over here and we have a smaller sun cage for them for the yard. Now, when they see their sun cage, they get really excited. So cute.
They absolutely have to stay together. If I take one bird upstairs to play, they scream endlessly to each other. I thought that eventually they would stop, but they NEED to be within eyesight of each other at all times. They actually cuddle at night. Who would want to separate that? They have a great balance of loving me and each other. They bicker and play during the day. Sometimes it gets a little rough though, so you need to keep an eye on them to be sure no injuries occur!
And here are a few videos of the cutie pies:

Update 2/19/2008: Our bones have healed, so now we are perfect, although we can't go back to the flock because we missed out on so much of the training that we needed to get from our parents to help us know how to survive in the wilds of San Francisco! But we're together and we're in love! We are really good friends, but are willing to allow our human foster mom to take us out of the cage and play. Sometimes, we get a bit shy and scared, but we are learning to trust our foster mom and dad a little more every day. We are learning to 'step up' and will do just about anything for a sunflower seed (our faaaaavoooriteee treat), but we love apples too. Mom feeds us these pellet things, we eat them because we know they are good for us and help to keep us healthy. We are conures, so we do 'sing', but we do like to be quiet when mom covers us up for the night. We actually cuddle at night when we go to sleep. We really do want to be together forever, it's great to have such a beautiful playmate. We're pretty certain that you will fall in love with us immediately, we are as sweet as can be! Our foster mom says she wouldn't mind keeping us, but really does enjoy helping out other birds with Mickaboo as well. I guess we have to share her with other birds that are in need.
I'm Sonoma, and Monty and I are baby cherryheads from the flock of conures that flies wild in San Francisco. I had an accident while learning to fly, I don't remember exactly what happened, but I was found lying on the ground unable to move my legs. Monty was found with a broken leg about the same time. We've been in foster care together and have formed a very close friendship, so Mickaboo would like to see us stay together since we've already had a lot of loss in our lives, losing our bond with our parents and with the flock.
While we were both pretty badly off when we came into Mickaboo, with bones so fragile that surgery couldn't even be done on Monty's leg, we're both now fully recovered to the point where even I, with my broken back, am not a special needs bird!
If you'd like to see a video of Monty (as if his handsome picture is not enough to make everyone fall in love with him already!) you can check out this URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU9atKvWYQk
