Courage must have been exposed to or eaten something very toxic while he was lost and alone in the world. Once he was found and taken to the animal shelter, it was obvious that he was very sick. A Mickaboo volunteer picked him up and took him to a veterinarian. Because he sang on the trip to the doctor, and sat up close next to the cage bars in order to keep the driver company, she named him Courage. Some of the medical treatments were very difficult, and surgery was done to reduce the size of his crop, swollen by his illness. Courage lived up to his name, fighting hard for life. But eventually even he gave up. Mickaboo cannot save every bird that comes into our hands, but we can give each one a chance. And each one teaches us a life lesson. Notice: Cockatiels are flock animals, and most of them are much happier when they live with at least one other cockatiel! Because of this, unless a household currently includes another cockatiel, Mickaboo usually requires that a minimum of two cockatiels be adopted. Print this page |
