Update 8/8/06: Champ settled right into my home as if he?d always been here. Always cheerful, always adventurous, Champ was a sweetheart of a bird. He and my Mickaboo adoptee Spinner (splay legged budgie) quickly became good friends. They?d preen each others heads and spent lots of time playing together. Champ had even begun to accept and trust me. He would get on my hands for free ?rides?. Sadly, Champ?s adventurous spirit led him astray. With his head tilt, navigation was a bit tricky for him when he tried to fly. Champ died after a crash. He was loved and happy here with me and Spinner. His loving, daring spirit touched my heart deeply; I will never forget him. I am grateful for the honor of sharing my life, even for a short time, with Champ. Hello everyone out there in Mickaboo-land. My name is Champ. I know that's a title that could be given to a lot of the brave birds that have overcome adversity and landed (fortunately for all of us!) here with Mickaboo. But I'm the one that gets the recognition this time. I was surrendered to Mickaboo with a severely overgrown beak and a head tilt. The beak was quickly fixed by a Mickaboo vet, but the cause of the head tilt is still a mystery. For those of you who aren't birds, you may not know that many things can cause a bird to hold his or her head at a funny angle. Something may have injured me, like an animal bite or a fall. Maybe I had something bad to eat. It's hard to say, and I can't say I remember any more. But I can fly and move around just fine. I'm pretty nervous around people's hands though. This picture shows me in what my foster mom calls "cage cleaning position", because I get out of her way when she cleans my cage. I'm interested in other budgies (there have been other Mickaboo fosters living here that look verrrry interesting), so I would be good company for a single budgie. I would ask you to be careful in choosing my roommate, however. Sometimes healthy budgies can be mean to budgies that have little imperfections, and it would make me sad to be bullied. But if you know of a kind budgie that needs a friend, I'd be a Champion choice! Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted. Print this page |
