Fistik here! I'm a Senegal parrot and Mickaboo thinks that I'm probably male based on my body weight, beak size, and coloration. I was found wandering around outdoors with my wings clipped by a nice woman of Turkish ancestry. She took great care of me and gave me a place to stay while searching diligently for my owner. Since my finder didn't know my name she called me her little fistik, a term of endearment which means "pistachio" in Turkish. After several months nobody had claimed me, I'd grown so used to being called fistik that I took the sobriquet as my name, and my finder finally called on the good people at Mickaboo to find me a home. Not much is known about my past but my foster mom says that I'm a real sweetheart here in the present. I love being around people, being petted and cuddled, whistling and sharing food. I'm on a great diet -- carrots are my favorite food -- and I am open to trying new foods, especially if my human companion will share them with me. Based on my personality, Mickaboo thinks that I'm probably still pretty young and I have been treated well by humans for the most part. I'm pretty quiet so far in foster care but I do like to whistle and I especially like it when people whistle back at me. Something to keep in mind about us parrots of the genus Poicephalus is that, in spite of how gentle we seem as youngsters, we can become more bossy and territorial as we reach breeding age and during each subsequent breeding season. If this ever happens to me, I'm still likely to be a fun-loving and companionable bird but I will need my human companion to set boundaries and exercise a bit more care when handling me. Likewise, we can sometimes get spooked rather easily -- for example, window blinds being open or closed scares me -- so we appreciate it when humans are considerate of this trait and help us to work through our anxieties. I'm all ready to go to a home where I'll be loved and cherished as a family member and am surrounded by people who will give me the care that I need throughout the stages of my life. Print this page |
