Hi, I'm Simon, a young, male parakeet. I came to Mickaboo because, just a few months after purchasing me in a pet store, my human companion decided that he didn't want me anymore. Hmph. It's OK though, I can get along fine without him.

As you can see, I have bright yellow plumage, and, if you look closely enough, you can see the blue patch of skin around my nose (called a cere) which is how you can tell that I'm male. In foster care I live with three other budgerigars (OK, you can call us "parakeets") and that is working out well for me. My foster mom says that I'm very acrobatic when I swing around from bar to bar in my cage. It is true that I'm an energetic little bird and I love playing with my cage-mates. I'm also a good eater and am usually the first one at the food dish every time it's refilled. Besides pellets, veggies and a little seed, I also like sprouted grains like quinoa and wheatberries. With a diet like that, it's no wonder that I am full of fire and music!

While I am good friends with my foster mom, I haven't learned to step up onto her hand yet. As a flock-oriented bird, I will do best with at least a few other budgies in a large cage where I can be at my acrobatic best. My foster mom will be glad to help you get started on sprouting grains so that I can keep them as part of my diet. I'm young, healthy, playful and happy and will make a great addition to your avian and human family.

Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted.
