I'm Gandalf - the world traveler. I'm originally from Saudi Arabia. A friend of my owner saw me in a variety store there. A young man kept blowing smoke into my face and it bothered my owners friend. He convinced them to sell me to him and for quite some time he kept me in an aviary he built at his company house. When his job was over there I was shipped to the US, quarantined and banded - then I came to live with my owner of twenty plus years. I'm a lesser sulpher-crested cockatoo 'at least twenty one years of age. I'm tame and friendly and love head scratches and neck rubs. I really like being around my people. I don't like to get too far from my cage but do like to be out and about when my family is around. I like to eat when you eat - so as long as it's healthy you can share your food with me. I'm a little quirky in that I like to stuff pellets, seeds and nuts under my wings. You may think I'm trying to save food for later but it's simply a behavior that some of us cockatoos have. Naps are a daily ritual with me and when it's time for nitey-nite I'll let you know and you'll have to cover me up. I feel safe and secure that way. Just so you know - I like to sleep on my swing. I "step- up" rather reluctantly and a bit clumsily. I'm not sure why it is but Mickaboo will have me evaluated by an avian vet soon as I've not been to a vet in all these years. Perhaps it's arthritis or an old foot injury. I do have feather picking problems , mostly on my wing feathers. Maybe there's an underlying issue or perhaps it's just a behavioral habit now. Though my family cares about me and my future life, circumstances have forced them to have to find a new home for me. They are very sad about this but asked Mickaboo to help them find me a wonderful new forever home. So, now that you've heard my story - will you think about adopting me? I truly want a place I can live out the rest of my life... a warm and caring place with friendly folks. Please consider me ok? Notice: Due to the notoriously difficult nature of cockatoos, Mickaboo prefers that cockatoos not be a households' first parrot.
