Hello from Danny Boy and Derek. That's Danny with the yellow and green jacket and Derek wearing all white. Yes, we are both male but only one of us has a "Boy" on the end of his name. We were surrendered as a male-female couple -- the pet store probably sold us that way -- and, for a while, the people at Mickaboo thought that Derek was a "she." In fact, his name used to be Delia! Since Derek's still very young it took a while for the dimorphic coloration around his nose to grow in. We were originally surrendered to a shelter when our human companions didn't want us any more, but all the dogs there were a bit unnerving to us. We're doing much better now, in a wonderful Mickaboo foster home. Our foster mom says that we're both very vocal ("typical nonstop budgie chatter", as she describes it) and playful. We're also very outgoing, and we like to visit the other parakeets and cockatiels here in foster care. We are still shy about stepping onto our foster mom's hand, but she leaves our cage open and we love to come out on our own and play under our foster mom's supervision. We're on a great diet of organic pellets, Nutri-an cakes and a wide variety of greens. (We eat carrot tops and beet tops, but not the carrots or beets!) We will love to go to a home with people who will visit with us and with a wide variety of toys to play with and greens to eat. Since we are bonded and are going to stay together, it's OK if you don't have any other birds for us to visit with. If you're looking to get your first pet birds, we might be the perfect choice for you. Send an email to Mickaboo's parakeet coordinator to learn more. Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted. Print this page |
