What's up? I'm JJ, and I'm a handsome 34 year old Blue & Gold macaw. I lived with a great family my entire life until recently. I'm more of a mama's boy, even though I was really bonded to my first dad. I've been around other birds (I had an Amazon buddy for a long time) as well as dog and cats, but I'm finding that I prefer things calmer and quiter. Too much activity gets me a bit aggitated. I love to sit on my playstand and look out the window, and I rarely climb down. Except when my foster mom sits on the floor I climb down to snuggle up against her leg for some wonderful scritches. I love scritches on the back of my neck!.
I'm a great eater too. I eat Zupreem pellets and love my fruits and veggies. Bananas and oranges are my favorites, and I will do almost anything for an almond. I'm a pretty neat bird as parrots go. When I get my almond I even put the empty shell in my bowl (okay, sometimes it's the water bowl, but I try!). I do a bit of vocalizing in the morning and evening and when I want my foster mom to come hang out with me. My favorite things to say are "What's Up", "Hello" and "Come On". If you listen quietly after I go to bed you can hear me also say "Are you alright", "What's the problem?", "Bummer", and "It's okay". I love to get baths too. On nice days my foster mom takes me outside and sprays the hose in the air on me like it's raining. I flap my wing (only one, my other wing was injured a long time ago and I can't stretch it), and shake my tail feathers.
