Hi there! I'm Fritz the sun conure. Aratinga solstitialis is my Latin species name, but, even if you can't pronounce that (the second word always gets me), you can still tell what kind of bird I am by my rainbow of colors! Unlike most parrots, the sun conures' patterns can vary a great deal from bird to bird, which means that I'm a one-of-a-kind! Like most suns, I'm bright, friendly and sometimes vocal. I was born on February 6, 2009 -- hey, I'm still just a kid! -- but have been moved around a lot in my short life. It's not that I'm hard to get along with, but my various human companions have had changes of plan that didn't include me. If I may give you some advice on this matter: I plan on living 30 years or so and I'd very much like to have human companions who will keep me in their family down the road and through thick and thin. I really like my current foster dad, and it took me just a few days to learn to trust him. In fact, I get scared and lonely when he leaves me alone for any length of time, and I call out to him, sometimes loudly. Mickaboo says that this is separation anxiety and it probably stems from the fact that I've been moved around so much. Like I said, I will really appreciate a stable home where I can grow comfortable that the people I care about will come home to me every day. Remember, I'm still very young and have a little growing up to do, emotionally. So, I don't like being left alone. When I'm with my foster dad and his friends, though, we have a great time! He says that I am one of the sweetest and friendliest companion birds that he's ever met - ever! I do like to give lots of kisses to whoever wants them, and I love to sit on shoulders, cuddle up to your neck and get scratches. I even have a neat little trick where I somersault from your collar and end up inside your shirt. I don't mean to go on about myself but I have just two more things to tell you. I'm already on a great diet but I'm still open to trying new foods if they are healthy, and, especially, if you will share them with me. And, I'm housetrained, sort of. I have a special little dance that I do when I need to go, and I usually give you time to get me to a safe place first. I genuinely do not want to poop on my human friends, and, with your help, I shouldn't ever have to. Isn't that polite? In short, I'm a loveable little guy who just wants to be loved back, and I want a human companion to play with and hang out with.
