Hey ho! I'm the yellow guy in the back, name's Foster. From the angle of that picture I look more like a lutino cockatiel but I'm actually a lutino pied, with lots of grey on my wings. That's my buddy Sydney the white-faced standing in front of me. I'm a little more outgoing, which is why I'm doing all of the talking here. First, I should point out something that you may have been wondering about: yes, I am in foster care and, yes, my name is Foster. For some reason my, uh, foster dad thinks this is humorous. That was my name before I came here though. Sydney's name has always been Sydney too, though that doesn't have the same irony to it. Syd and I are both about 12 years old and we've been best friends for a long time. Here's the thing: we are two of the most friendly, playful, cheerful, vocal, energetic cockatiels that you'll ever meet. We are not loud like the larger parrots but we like to whistle. A lot! And with gusto! We have our cockatiel songs, of course, but we also know several gorgeous and complicated wild songbird songs, and we coo like pigeons in the morning. We like to talk like humans, too! Our favorite phrases are "C'mere Foster!" and "Pretty bird!" You may have heard that birds who live with other birds are less likely to be social with humans, but you'll know better after you've met Sydney and me. We really like being around people and will jump onto your shoulder every time you ask us to step up. We prefer men but women and older children are fine. We are usually inseparable but Sydney sometimes likes one-on-one time with our foster dad, just a few moments to cuddle on his chest. Even though we will be happy to be with you, if you insist on walking away we'll soon find something else to do. So far we haven't seen a toy that we won't try or a ladder that we won't climb. Reading between the lines here, you might have realized by now that we will need a human family who will provide us with a lot of love and attention, in a home where singing and playing are accepted and encouraged. We like other cockatiels too -- hey, we like just about everybody -- but if you have bigger birds you might want to keep us separate from them. With our penchant for visiting and exploring we could end up getting injured by larger-billed birds. Like we said, we are two of the friendliest and most playful cockatiels that you will ever meet (also all that other stuff about cheerful and vocal . . . oh, go up and read it again!) Even our foster dad agrees, and he's known an awful lot of cockatiels. Can we come fill your home with friendship and joy (and an occasional wild bird song)? Let Mickaboo know! Notice: Cockatiels are flock animals, and most of them are much happier when they live with at least one other cockatiel! Because of this, unless a household currently includes another cockatiel, Mickaboo usually requires that a minimum of two cockatiels be adopted. Print this page |
