This tiny little budgie with the silly name gave up his struggle today. We couldn't reverse all of the damage he had suffered, but he flew gently on to the next plane of existence. Please, everyone out there, please don't use human medicines, even over-the-counter medicines, on birds. Tiny little birds are very different from big mammals. This little budgie had a crusty-looking cere (nose), so his family treated him with triple antibiotic cream. As you can see in the picture, a substantial part of his beak has been eaten away. He also has neurological issues and has trouble walking, controlling his tail and cannot right himself if he falls on his back. When the damage to his beak became severe, the people who had him thought that he would have to starve to death. He also has neurological problems. But little Blue Pork Chop (he was named by his foster mom), can eat soft wet Nutrian cakes, and boy does he eat! We don't know what fate has in store for this budgie. But we know that budgies are tough and resilient. As long as he eats and acts like a bird that wants to live, Mickaboo will do what we can to give him care and support. We're big supporters of tough little budgies! Notice: Due to the highly social nature of parakeets, unless a household currently includes a parakeet, Mickaboo generally requires that a minimum of two parakeets be adopted. Print this page |
