My name is Mate and I am a five year old Caique. My gender is not confirmed, but most people think I am male, because of me robust build, my brilliant colors, my huge personality an my enthusiastic posturing. I am the definition of FIRECRACKER. I need a large cage, lots of toys of differnt types, and lots of places to swing from. I am quite vocal, but my calls are not as loud as many parrots. I say, "step up" in anticipation, I whistle the theme to the Andy Griffith show and I have a delightful vocabulary of whistles and mechanical sounds. My first mom turned gave me up because I was too much for her. As I became sexually mature my behavior became more aggressive, and afer I bit her quite hard once, she could not get the trust between us back. I have a clean slate with my foster mom, who pays attnetion to my warning signs and doesn't take it personally if I give her a nip. She spends alot of time having me step up and down, moving toys and meeting new people. Even with all that attention I can still get bored. I can behave in an aggressive manner, but respond well to a calm, assertive way of speaking and moving if you must handle me when my energy is too high. If you are looking for an energetic, brilliantly smart, beatifully colored, hugely entertaining and somewhat stubborn avian friend, I am the best choice you could make. Keep in mind that with all that intelligence and energy comes an assertive personality that is poorly suited to a boring cage. If you are game (I love games) give my coordinator a call!
