Hancock originally was named Dolores, but his name was changed when his foster parents felt he seemed more a boy than a girl. That said, he has not been DNA tested, so we're really not sure! This little bird is a miracle to us when he came in originally we did not think he would live the week. He not only lived, he's alive and full of life. You can read the early entries about Dolores (now Hancock!) over at our blog: http://wild-parrots.livejournal.com/tag/dolores Because of his neurological damage, he cannot see out of one eye, even though it looks fine to us. One of his feet is a bit crippled and he has a little trouble controlling it. Sometimes he seems to have trouble with the other foot as well. Other than that, he's fine. Loves to climb on his low comfy perches, and when he's out, loves to climb up mommy's arm to her shoulder. But, when he falls, he gets really scared and if it's on a wooden floor, slips all over. He's a good eater, loves to forage. In the right cage setup, he will have a great time, and thoroughly enjoys coming out to get snuggles and scritches. He talks (says "heLLO" and "night, night"). He's a smarty. He's very affectionate. A little beaky, but nothing unusual for a baby. He was born in the fall of 2008. He is definitely a special needs bird, who will require a lot of extra care. That said, the conure coordinator lives with a cherryhead with similar issues and would be happy to talk to anyone who is interested in knowing more about living with a bird with these sorts of handicaps. :) Print this page |
