Hello there! My name is Sara and I'm a very pretty lutino cockatiel. I just got here a few days ago after my previous human companion abandoned me and my ex-roomate Isaac outside of the UC Davis veterinary hospital. They left us in a box with a note saying that they couldn't keep us because of a divorce. A student who found us at the hospital decided that we were healthy and didn't need to be admitted as inpatients there so she called Mickaboo for us. Isaac and I didn't really get along anyway so we had a sort of divorce of our own. We're in separate foster homes now, but there are no hard feelings and I do wish him the best of luck. My foster mom describes me as a "rubenesque beauty" which means that I am, well, a bit large. She is keeping a close eye on my weight and diet to determine if I need to lose a few pounds -- er, grams -- or if I'm just big-boned. I am learning about healthy foods and friendly people in foster care and, after my quarantine period, I will get a chance to meet the other birds who live here to see how I get along in a group setting. For now I am a bit shy and rather quiet around people but I do like having my head and neck scritched. As long as I am being petted I love being around people. In fact, I would sit there all day getting my neck rubbed if I could. It's a good icebreaker and is helping me to get comfortable in my new surroundings. I also make a distinctive little chirp when I want something -- a treat, more head scritches, time out of my cage, time in my cage, etc. You need to figure out which of those things I want each time i make my chirping sound, so it is kind of like a guessing game! I will check back with you in a few weeks after I've settled in a bit more. Ciao. Notice: Cockatiels are flock animals, and most of them are much happier when they live with at least one other cockatiel! Because of this, unless a household currently includes another cockatiel, Mickaboo usually requires that a minimum of two cockatiels be adopted. Print this page |
