8th Annual Fall Furry Flurry

By Leslie Grant

Come out and support your favorite rescue group – Mickaboo – at the 8th Annual Fall Furry Flurry to be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Los Gatos Creek Park in Campbell.

Besides food, there will be games, activities, and a silent auction and raffle for some amazing items: dog, cat, and other quilts, a bi-plane ride, doggie day care/training certificates, concert tickets, a beer basket, wine baskets, a visit to a bed and breakfast, Sharks tickets, 49er tickets, and more!

You can help in many different ways.  Volunteer to help run the Flurry, support our volunteer Pamela Lee as she walks on behalf of Mickaboo, get sponsors and walk yourself, walk with your dog, or walk on behalf of your bird, rabbit, or cat. Or maybe you have a unique service that you want to donate as a raffle item.

Walking opportunities, with or without your pet, can be had for a mere $25 if you register before October 12, and you will receive a quality t-shirt, raffle ticket, and goodie bag for your dog or a doggie friend, and some good, healthy exercise along the way. While the entry fee goes to PAWS and the Bay Area Siberian Husky Rescue for sponsoring this event, anything earned in the name of Mickaboo goes to our organization, along with money from our auction items. We will have an information/education table set up so you can come out and socialize.

Why take part in this fundraiser? We have the opportunity to raise funds for Mickaboo, as well as give back to a fundraising group who protects and defends animals. Pet Awareness and Welfare Society for San Jose Animal Care Center, known as PAWS, has supported Mickaboo in ways you may not yet know about. They have donated toys, food, and new carriers for our birds.  They have also supported two of our birds, Boudica and Charlie, with partial reimbursement for medical expenses.

PAWS supports groups that rescue animals from San Jose Animal Care Center, a shelter in San Jose. Volunteers from different rescues have formed and built PAWS to work closely with the shelter and local rescues to provide medical care, such as spaying and neutering, animal assistance projects, and community outreach on behalf of adoptable rescued animals.

The Flurry’s sign in time is 9:00-10:30; the 5K Walk runs from 9:30-12:30. Games and contests will happen between 11:00 and 12:30. The raffle drawing is at 12:30 and the silent auction is planned for 1:00.

Remember, if you can’t be there, you can still help out by sponsoring our volunteer, Pamela Lee, who will be walking on behalf of Mickaboo. Everything in Mickaboo’s name goes directly to us.

To sponsor Pam or for any other information, email pr@mickaboo.org or call 650-450-9104.
